Heavy Metal Athletic :: About
HEAVY METAL ATHLETIC took its first steps in late 1980 in
Weiterstadt. In the western area of the city an over 100
year old Sports Club is located.
A 'Powerlifting Room' (the old Reagan era term for a gym)
ignited the later HEAVY METAL ATHLETIC.
It took a decade to browse several powerlifting locations
in and around Darmstadt and Dieburg, as well as Munich,
Ingolstadt, Koblenz, Siegen, and more.
In the second half of the 1980 era a - formerly called -
'Training Place'; later converted into a 'Social Training
Place' successfully acted as kind of 'pre-Gym'.
Here the name 'HEAVY METAL' was born in early 1990!
While sitting on a bench with a 100-kg barbell behind and
over 500kg of discs scattered over the floor the new name
blitzed into memory. This is now 35 years ago.
In 1990 a former DIY store became available as the first
regular Gym when the previous CEO sold it. The originally
named 'Studio 1' Gym was later renamed to 'HEAVY METAL
Athletic Club and Fitness Center' and carried us into the
new Millennium. Over the course of time HEAVY METAL grew
from three Hessen locations to the current big fat family
distributed over the entire world.
Just after the new Millennium has begun we stated 'From
Aachen to Zwickau' (western and eastern parts of Germany)
we today say 'From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe' while Luna
and Mars are both waiting in between 2060 and 2260.
With the 'McFit' line 24/7/365 gyms started in July 2006,
membership numbers exploded in no time crossing the 1000-
member-mark in no time. McFit peaked with over 200 gyms
after MMX has been introduced in 2010. Today 24/7/365 is
normal and McFit is no longer Number One in this context.
With MMXPLUS, having started in 2020, the new Next Gener-
ation Gyms, known as 'FERRUM', 'ARGENTUM', and 'AURUM',
slowly replace/convert the still existing 'Classic Gyms'.
We expect the full transition being completed well before
the year 2100.
Once a place for just Powerlifting athletes HEAVY METAL
ATHLETIC is now a place for everyone of any age ranging
from 6 years up to 100 years. And more.
Having introduced the 'Fitness 55PLUS' program in 2020 and
the 'Fitness 65PLUS' program in 2025 we strive (not strug-
gle) to make older people 'Fit4Life' in the upcoming few
years. As long as such persons do not suffer from Altzhei-
mer or other severe health problems we are truly confident
helping to solve age problems to a certain degree before
2050.
